OXFORD MEDIA SOCIETY
Welcome Back to Michaelmas Term 2020
Our President, Sophie Littlewood, shares an update on our plans for the new academic year.
Dear all,
I’m delighted to welcome you back to the Oxford University Media Society for the new academic year. Since the relaunch of the Media Society in 2018, we’ve grown to nearly 900 members and hosted over 50 events with industry-leading speakers and brands. Even as we navigate this new normal, I want to reaffirm that we remain committed in our mission to connect Oxford to the global media industry.
With this in mind, I’m pleased to announce our plans for Michaelmas Term. Over the coming weeks and months, we will be hosting live webinars with some of the most prominent figures in the media industry. We’ll also be releasing new episodes of our podcast, ‘Insiders’, available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts, and updating our blog with think-pieces, interviews from early career professionals and media recommendations from the Committee. Our latest podcast is out today with Rebecca Vincent, Director of International Campaigns and former UK Director of Reporters Without Borders (Reporters sans frontières).
I’m also pleased to welcome Bright Network as our newest partner. Bright Network joins our existing partner, The Economist, in supporting our activities and ensuring that our events and membership are free and open to all. We’ll be sharing more details over the coming weeks of how to get involved with these great organisations, so do keep an eye out.
Our members are at the heart of what we do, and we pride ourselves on being a society where students can be informed and inspired. Alongside our talks and digital content, we’ll be offering exclusive events and opportunities for our members. Our newly formed Membership Team has been exploring further ways that we can engage and solidify our network during these unprecedented times. If you’re not yet a member, then please do sign up here – it’s free.
I am so grateful for the Committee’s hard work and dedication over the summer in adapting to ever-changing circumstances. We’re really excited to share what we’ve been planning and how you can get involved. And if you’re interested in getting behind-the-scenes this term, it’s not too late! We’ll be opening applications for College Ambassadors next week.
That’s all for now. Do stay in touch with us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn, and we’re looking forward to seeing many new and familiar faces at the virtual Freshers Fair on Wednesday October 7th. Stay safe.
All the best,
Sophie Littlewood
President
