The Oxford University Media Society is delighted to announce that Simon Lewis OBE, Chief Executive of the Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME), has accepted the President and Senior Member’s invitation to become a Patron of the society.

Mr. Lewis spoke at the society earlier this term and was impressed with the professionalism and prominence of our activities.

In a statement, Mr. Lewis said: “It is a great privilege to become a patron of the Oxford University Media Society.

“This is a well-run group which addresses important and topical media issues of the day and provides a platform for varied and interesting speakers from the media world.

“My own personal experience of the society has been very positive and I am delighted to lend my support.”

Prior to joining AFME, Mr. Lewis was Director of Communications and the Prime Minister’s Official Spokesman at 10 Downing Street. He has held a number of senior corporate roles including Director of Corporate Affairs at Vodafone, Centrica and NatWest. He was also appointed as the first Communications Secretary to The Queen in 1998.

Theo Davies-Lewis, President of the society, shared his delight at the news: “I am very excited to have Simon on board with us at the society.

“His event was one of the most popular and interesting this term and energised much of the committee to look at broad issues that we have in a social media world.

“As well as this, his experience throughout his career is extremely impressive and wide-ranging, meaning he will be a great asset to the society and its aims.

“I look forward to working with Simon over the next few months to build the society and ensure Oxford students continue to engage with issues in the media today.”
